The uniqueness of this city has many ancient buildings that were built between the years 1100-1700. One famous buildings, the Bern Cathedral, was built in Gothic design in 1400s.

Bern had become a military post in 1911. Bern region developed into a city and became an independent territory. In 1353, Bern became part country of Switzerland. In the 1300s to 1700s Bern City was known to be quite strong. This power was destroyed when France invaded in 1798.

In 1803, Bern came under French rule. Subsequently, in 1848 the City of Bern became the Capital of Switzerland. In 1983, UNESCO named Bern as one of the world heritage sites because of the many historic buildings. (*)
