Great Wall of China, One of Seven Wonders of The World

 


IPHEDIA.com - Traveling to China is not complete without visiting Great Wall of China, the longest building ever created by humans located in China. Great Wall of China or Great Wall of China is one of Seven Wonders of the World and was included in list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1987.

Historically, construction of this wall was one of most important parts in the history of Chinese architecture, namely to limit urban and residential areas. Another theory says that the great wall was erected, among others as a bastion, land ownership boundaries, border markers and communication channels to convey messages.

From the physical, Great Wall of China is not long continuously, but is a collection of short walls that follow shape of the mountains of northern China. Based on written evidence that is generally accepted, basically this large wall was constructed by a majority in period of Qin Dynasty, Han Dynasty and Ming Dynasty. However, most of giant walls that stand today were built in Ming period.

On April 18, 2009, after an accurate investigation by the government of the People's Republic of China, it was announced that the giant wall constructed during the Ming Dynasty period was 8,851 kilometers long.

In addition, term great wall or long wall was not found during previous dynasty. But, after wall was built by Ming, then term "changcheng" (big wall or long wall) is known. Regardless of how it is named, Great Wall of China or Great Wall of China is still visited by tourists from all over the world. (as)
