9 Ways Google Uses AI in Its Products

IPHEDIA.com - Google has made a major breakthrough in the use and application of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

AI is already powering Google's core products that help billions of people every day centered on making everyday experiences more meaningful.

Google has been developing AI for more than two decades. Some of its most popular products, such as Lens and Translate.

These Google products are built entirely using artificial intelligence technologies such as optical character recognition and machine learning.

Plus, many other Google products now have AI built into them, and the results are much better and more useful for billions of people.

Many of these improvements were made possible thanks to Google's invention of the Transformer in 2017.

Considered the ancestor of the modern language model, Google can now build AI language models, such as BERT, PALM, MUM and LaMDA on top of this architecture.

The AI language model can do everything from solving complex math word problems and answering questions in a new language.

With this model of discussion they can also express their reasons through words using thought chain encouragement.

Launching the Google Technology Blog, here are 9 (nine) ways Google uses AI to make its products more useful.

Search. When Google was founded, most searches occurred on home computers, computer labs or libraries.

Twenty-five years later, AI is enabling search in a new language, with new inputs, such as searching with your camera, or even humming a song and even multiple entries at once.

Thanks to multiple searches, you can now search with images and text simultaneously with the Google App.

So next time, if you're inspired by an interesting wallpaper pattern, you can simply snap a photo and add text to find that pattern on a shirt.

Maps. The AI behind Google Maps analyzes data to provide up-to-date information about traffic conditions and delays — sometimes helping you avoid traffic jams entirely.

It also automatically updates things like business hours and speed limits so you can see the latest information about your world every day.

Pixels. AI helps your Pixel phone instantly translate 21 languages in chat, and facilitates verbal conversations between 6 different languages in Translator Mode.

It is also what allows the Magic Eraser to remove distractions from photos.

Photos. People take lots of photos but lots of photos make memories easily buried.

So, back in 2015, When Google developed AI in Google Photos to help you search for photos based on their content.

Google has also used AI in Photos to help you revisit forgotten “Memories”.

YouTube. YouTube uses AI to automatically caption videos, making them more accessible to a wider audience, including those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Assistant. Humans talk like humans. For a long time, computers weren't. Natural Language Processing (NLP) AI technology developed for Assistants.

The Assistant allows it to understand and respond in a way that mimics human communication right down to parsing your question text trying to identify the meaning of your question.

So it's AI that allows your phone, Home, TV or car to quickly understand what you mean and give you directions.

Gmail. We are all familiar with features like autocomplete and spell checker. Both are powered by AI.

However, if you've ever wondered why Gmail is less spammy than other email services — take a look at AI.

Google's spam filtering capabilities are powered by AI, and they block nearly 10 million spam emails every minute.

Not only that, Google powered by AI prevents more than 99.9% of spam, phishing attempts and malware from reaching you.

Ads. Businesses big and small around the world rely on Google Ads to find customers and grow their business, and Google is making it even easier with AI.

As one example, through Performance Max, advertisers simply tell Google their campaign goals and share their creative assets.

AI will automatically produce and run highly effective ad campaigns across Google properties, to meet their budgets.

Google also uses AI to automatically reformat landscape video ads into vertical or square ads, based on what someone is watching on YouTube.

Cloud. Lastly, Google has put the power of AI in the hands of other businesses, so they can change the way they work and operate.

Google Cloud has built AI into many solutions that its customers can adapt to their unique needs, such as DocAI for document processing and Contact Center AI for call center operations.

Then, AI Vertex Vision for video and image analysis, Translation Hub for translations in 100+ languages at scale and many other examples.

These are 9 ways Google uses AI to make its products more useful. Hopefully, this information is also useful. (*)
