IPHEDIA.com - In addition to visiting exotic beaches, if you go to Bali, don't visit Tirta Empul Temple, Manukaya Village, Tampak Siring District, Gianyar Regency, Bali, Indonesia.

Inside this temple complex there is a holy spring which is now part of the area where Balinese Hindus worship.

Tirta Empul which in Balinese means water that gushes out of the ground, is a spring that is rescued by the local community.

In addition to being a place to purify oneself from illnesses and other bad things, it is also an effective place for those who want their prayers and hopes to come true.

According to local people, this place is part of the legend of Lord Bhatara Indra's feud with a powerful but greedy king named Mayadanawa.

Dewa Bhatara Indra managed to shoot and kill the king even though the king had tried to outwit the god by turning himself into a sandstone.

The event battle that killed the greedy King Mayadanawa was the background celebration of Galungan by the Balinese people who described the victory of dharma (goodness) over adharma (badness).

Because purity and efficacy of these springs then a bathing pool was made during the time of King Sri Candrabhaya around 962 AD and also built a temple on it during the reign of King Masula Masuli who came to power around 1178 AD.

Besides the Tirta Empul Temple Complex there is also the Tampaksiring State Palace which was built by the first Indonesian President, Ir Soekarno, in 1957.

When visiting the Tirta Empul Temple complex we will be asked to use kamen or sarong which is commonly used for worship by Balinese Hindu community as a form of respect for the sacred complex worship building. (*)
