Coastal and forest areas, especially in Sembilang and Banyuasin Peninsula, are habitat for Sumatran tigers (Panthera tigris sumatrae), Asian elephants (Elephas maximus sumatranus), Malayan tapir (Tapirus indicus), siamang (Hylobates syndactylus syndactylus) and golden cats (Elephas maximus sumatranus), Malayan tapir (Tapirus indicus), siamang (Hylobates syndactylus syndactylus) and golden cats (Catopuma temminckii) temminckii).
