Baluran National Park, Natural Attraction in East Java

The name "Baluran" from this national park is taken from the name of the mountain in this area, namely Baluran Mountain. In Banyuwangi, there are approximately 3 national parks that stand and serve as leading tourist destinations, one of them is Baluran National Park.

The national park, which is also a natural tourist attraction covering an area of approximately 25,000 thousand hectares, consists of savanna vegetation, mangrove forests, seasonal forests, coastal forests, lower mountain forests, swamp forests and forests that are always green throughout the year. Savanna vegetation types dominate the Baluran National Park area, which is about 40 percent of the total land area.

The history of the establishment of Baluran National Park began in 1937. At that time, the Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies established Baluran as a Wildlife Sanctuary. In 1962, Baluran was re-established as a Wildlife Sanctuary by the Minister of Agriculture and Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia.

On March 6, 1980, to coincide with the day of the World Conservation Strategy, the Baluran Wildlife Reserve was announced as the National Park under the name Baluran National Park.
