The Plitvice Lake National Park, founded in 1949 and located in the karst mountains in central Croatia - borders with Bosnia and Herzegovina, one of the oldest and largest national parks in Croatia. In 1979, the national park was included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

This national park had become famous during the 1960s and 1970s through several Western film productions taken from Karl May's novels, which take many views on the lake or waterfall.
