Mont Saint-Michel, Historic Castle World Heritage Site in France

 

This island before the first monastic development of the 8th century was called Mont Tombe, which later became Mont Saint-Michel.

IPHEDIA.com - Located on the rocky tidal island of Normandy, about one kilometer from the northern coast of France at the mouth of the Couesnon river near Avranches, Mont Saint-Michel is a beautiful historic castle, one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Before it was visited by tourists like now, the island which was located northwest of France was known as a pilgrimage site, with a prison and fort in the middle of the island. In 1879, the land bridge was built into a causeway. Its beauty and rich history can lure tourists to visit the island and climb to the top of the monastery.

The island is connected to the mainland through a thin natural land bridge, then closed at high tide and visible at low tide. Therefore, Mont Saint Michel also received the title of mystic, the tide island.

To go to Mont Saint-Michel the route is very easy because there are many choices. If using public transportation, you can depart from Paris, Bayeux, Caen or Rennes. The easiest way to drive, follow the GPS instructions until you reach the parking area. Free parking is available from the parking area which will take you right in front of the island.

Another easiest way to get to Mont Saint-Michel from Paris is to take a direct train to Rennes, a small town in France which is also worth visiting. From Paris, the train will depart from Paris Montparnasse station and arrive in Rennes in 2 hours 5 minutes. Tickets can be purchased on the same day via the SNCF official website. After arriving in Rennes, we can take a shuttle bus to Mont Saint-Michel.
